Reading Response #1: Educational History

Assignment: For your first reading response, consider your educational history up until this point: elementary school, middle school, high school, etc. Choose one specific memory from your scholastic career that you feel, in some way, defines your experience with learning. Has that experience inspired you to come here to Columbia College Chicago? How so? Why are you here at Columbia? Let the story of your memory show the reader why, without telling them directly. If there was a teacher that helped to boost your self-esteem, consider recalling a specific conversation with that teacher. Whatever you choose, remember two things: BE SPECIFIC and TELL A STORY. Since this is only a one page writing assignment, only spend a sentence or two introducing your story.

Rhetorical Considerations: What is your worst memory from school? Do you remember the first time you made an A in algebra? Is there a specific class that made you begin to enjoy learning? Was there a teacher that sparked a passion? Did you hate taking standardized tests: ACTs, SATs, etc?

Requirements: 1 full page; double-spaced
MLA format (see example)

Remember to word-process all assignments, using 12-point font and 1-inch margins all around. Start by using a font such as Times New Roman. Don’t forget heading in the top left-hand corner with your name, course title, instructors’ names, and date. Also, come up with a title for every response. Have the title in the center of the page. All font should be 12 pt (even the title).
