08/18/2010 Your Purpose

In True Notebooks Marks father asked him, “but what is the purpose for your class?” As artist we all have purpose to our art form. Explain your purpose.

  1. The intention of my art is to free people from everyday stress and problems. Life can be very rough and tiring and many people need some type of relief. I provide that type of relief, when a person comes to the club after a hard week at school, work, or anything else, they want to be happy. They want their problems to diminish, give them a break and when they are standing there and I mix in their favorite song, they start to dance in addition to sing the words. Then everything else slowly reduces till it’s only them the person they are dancing with and the music. Dancing makes a person feel free and fills them up with joy, the fact that I can provide somebody with happiness even if it is for 3 or 4 hours means so much to me.

  2. My purpose for my art work is to get it out to the public and show other people what I would really do. I’m currently trying to get my zine out to the open so people can see what I can really do and trying to find shows to make fliers for that show. I want to put my zine out because I want to express how I feel about different albums and shows that I had gone to and show all of my creative skill I can really do. It is currently coming along good but I need to start typing and printing more things. The purpose for me to put out this zine is that I can show my friends and locals what I can do.

  3. My purpose of art is to express inner thoughts and also ideas. Personally I have a lot unique ideas but the way I would like for them to be viewed is through art. Pictures say a million words without actually speaking. My purpose of the art I do is to get messages to the public on what’s happening on the side people really don’t see rather its good or bad I just feel we as a whole should always know what’s going on in our world.

  4. My art is simply expression. There aren't many messages that are life altering in any way. I'm not saying there are no messages at all. I do create art with things in mind or nothing would come of it. Sometimes it's just emotion based. I'm sad or happy or I'm angry, maybe even frustrated. If I was frustrated it would probably be because I couldn't create anything that I was content with. My goal is to create art with much more purpose. One reason I came to this school is to find a way to take my intellectual mind and mold it with all areas of my art. I want to put strenght in my music lyrics and profound meaning in my visual art.

  5. As an artist you have a purpose towards your art form. Because were all not the same we do things different. We look at things differently, so that’s why we have a purpose for our art form. My art form is considered creative because I take my art to the next level by thinking ahead of time to make my work more unique. The reasons why I think ahead of time, people like trends that are part of today, I want to show people what to expect from the future.

  6. An art form to me is someone who can paint or someone who can dance etc. I have said before that I don't think I have a true "art form" because knowing a lot about music and being able to sign an up and coming artist I don't feel is real "art”. I do think I have a purpose to other people's art though. I think that I can give someone a very bright opportunity by giving them a chance to share their talents with the world. I think managing a band and taking care of financial or promotional aspects have a purpose to my "art". I know I have a purpose for the art of music, I just don't believe I personally have the "art form".

  7. John, you say that your art shows your unique ideas and highlights a message from the side of life that the public doensn't really see. What side do you show in your art? Is your art rooted in the home? What type of art do you do? And how do you show this other side?

  8. Dolfo, Thanks for your honesty about searching for your purpose, or wishing to create more purposeful art. College, and Columbia, is a great place to discover your "purpose" or personal project.

  9. The purpose of my art form is for to show people what dancing is all about. I want people to understand that it is not just about getting on a stage and shaking our butts. It is so much more than that. I want to bring a whole new different meaning of dance to the world. When people watch dance I want them to feel what I feel when I am up on that stage. The lights, the lyrics, the movement, the adrenaline rush that crawls through my body as I first step out on to stage is part of my purpose for dancing. Without any kind of art in the world, I do not think there would be a purpose to life. Art is what makes this universe unique. It surrounds us each day.

  11. My purpose is to encourage more males to dance. There are some, but not many males tend to dance as much as the females, just as the same as males who play football more so than women. When I dance, I hope to show that if that is a passion, then let your passion shine, and don’t hold back from it because of what people might say, or how you question it. If you know you’re good, and you worked hard to think you are good enough then you are good, so why not give it a try. I just want to show that dance can be powerful, emotional, fun, and difficult, just like any other art form or task.

  12. My purpose for being an actress is to encourage people like me with Psoriasis. The people that are ashamed to have a skin condition. To know what its like being a certain individual from everyone else. You feel like an outcast because you are different from other kids. I am going to prove that just because you have a skin condition, doesn't mean you should give up on your dream. Sometimes I wonder why me, why I have a skin condition. I guess it was just meant for me to have one. Since I am a strong person I can help those who would normally give up. It's time for us to come out of our shell and stand up. I feel my purpose is to keep others from looking down. I can show people that you can be anything you want to be. The person has to remember within themself that they are somebody. I can preach to people with a skin condition that you are somebody. You should never give up on hope because in your heart you can make it.

  13. My aspirations and intended idea is to show through my dance that no how much we go through you can make it and have faith with dignity and strength. My purpose is to let people free my emotion through my body movements and deliverance. My thoughts and purpose is to give someone else the courage and confidence to be strong, alert, and ready to take on a challenge, and eager to expand. I want people to be at ease and comfortable when watching I dance so that they can get something at of it. I give that type of vibe of strength, that when a person see me they feel ok to let out their feelings and problems. They will also feel happy and relax. My purpose has been fulfilled and great.

  14. Singing and dancing is something that always touches people. Everyone does it on a day to day basis whether they are good at it or not. With dancing, my purpose is more for me on a personal level, as well with singing. The difference is, though people watch me perform on stage, they do not feel the emotions I go through while I’m dancing, they do not go through the time process and practice I go through to make my piece what it is, but they do try and connect with me in a way by watching me perform. Singing is something totally different. I sing because it’s what I feel inside, and do it for myself as well as others. My brother would always tell people “she even sings in sentences when she’s talking to me”. For any emotion a person is going through there is a song to connect with it. When I sing in the studio, if there is no purpose behind the words coming from my mouth, it’s almost like there’s no meaning to the song. I want to make people feel good, and listen to my music and connect with me, knowing exactly what I’m feeling, and what they are feeling. Singing and critiquing your own work or songs isn’t an easy process like most would predict, but once it’s finished, it is a magical connection that everyone can feel. I wish to touch people in ways and get through to them with my powerful sound, to block out all the worries of the world and sing and feel freely.
