One Million Bones Project (Bone-making Party)

After watching Naomi Natale's call for artists and activists we can see her passion and intensity, along with her wish to bring attention to the topic of world genocide. How do your personal questions and ideas, passions and art, reflect issues of the world? For those of you who wish to touch other peoples' lives with your art, how do you make that a reality? What will you do, whether it be with a specific project, or within your outlook, to move or help people, to bring attention to certain issues, or change peoples' outlooks, through your art?

  1. I have done many performances in my life but most were just for competitions, football/basketball games, dance recitals, or convention. Expect this year my dance studio took on a project. We rented theater for one night. We asked local business to support us. The moms at my studios made raffle prizes. We were supporting a young girl who had cancer through the Make a Wish Foundation. Before our performance started, the audience and dancers sat and watched a film on her battle through cancer. She was a dancer as well. It was the most touching thing I have ever seen in life. When I took the stage to dance my first performance I felt that I was dancing with an actual purpose. Knowing what, why, and who I was dancing for made it an overwhelming feeling. Within my dancing career, I want to take on more events such as Make a Wish Foundation. I love knowing that my art can make a difference in people’s lives.

  2. My passion for acting can certainly change people's lives. Since there are social issues in the world, as an actor I can make a movie about it. I can get people interested into wanting to change the world. The issue at the gulf the huge oil spill. I can make people get more involved with the situation. Everyone can blame BP for their mistake, but yet people are still buying gas from them. In my opinion, I feel that no one really cares about the oil spill. The only people who cares are the environmentalists. The animals in the gulf that died because of this. Animal control can only do so much to help save the animals. I can make this become reality by speaking out. I can get a group of people with me to help save the animals. The animals have no habitat anymore due to this situation. My heart goes out to the animals that got killed or badly hurt. I can bring that attention to people eventhough everyone knows about it. I want people to actually do something and no just ignore it.

  3. I feel that reflecting art to show a world issue is great. People tend to connect more to the emotion when they view art, because maybe the colors brought out more to them, or even a dance step. I would like my art to bring out something in people. I feel that I just perform my art for the people but the emotion and music are all for me. When I dance, most likely I am telling a story and would like for the people to be able to understand the story even if they are mentally or physically def. I would like to try to add more worldly issues to the storytelling and maybe people would view them differently, because I don’t think people would expect to feel that emotion from a world issue, which would totally be a shock.

  4. I love touching someone heart through my dance and I make that reality by choosing songs that make me feel all emotions. If I choose songs and make choreography that is connected to the words than I will make a difference. I can make a difference if I meditate on the song I’m dancing to and let in dwell inside of me. Art is reality because it is what I love to do and have a driven passion for. With dance I can show the emotion of what the world is going through or feeling through my movements and courage to go beyond the norm. Every time I dance I let go and dance for everyone who wants to be heard and seen in society as real and human. When I dance I dance what I am feeling or may be going through at that moment. I live and breathe dance through my body and hopes of changing someone idea of life. Reflecting art as a message teller is a great way of spreading the word more than just talking or listening all the time.

  5. I have not dedicated any of my work to a specific topic, world issue or disaster. But when it comes to fundraisers having to do with an epic issue or problem in the world with others less fortunate then I, I am always strongly willing to help and it immediately touches my heart. I feel grief for people less fortunate then me and wish I could give money to them all, but since I can’t, I participate in activities and events around me to do as much as I can. I have always wanted to start something on my own or create something so huge that it impacts the ones around me and the ones very far away, but I don’t know where to start. Perhaps I could get help from my mother who is a huge marketing and event planner, to get my name out there or I could start with a Public Service Announcement video. Incorporated in the viewing it would just include pictures and short but direct words. I am not sure if I would include sound because silence sometimes is the greatest noise. Depending on the topic I would choose to take part in, I would have very emotional pictures and heartfelt words so it touches my spectators in a deeper way. By posting it on a website like YouTube, I would know how far I would want to, or should take it based upon my views. The intention Naomi wishes to make is so great, and I do hope, that with help I can do something as wonderful. As far as my art is concerned, I do not know when I will start.

  6. I think for what I'm going into (music business); I can touch people’s lives in a way. If there is an up and coming or even a struggling musician that has talent and I have the ability to sign them to a record label based on what I've heard of them, it could really touch someone's lives. Giving them the opportunity to shown their personal art and passions to the world. I don't really think I can bring attention to certain music through my "art" but I do feel that an artist that is signed can make a difference for certain issues. They could donate money to charities or make a song for a certain foundation. Personally I feel that I can't change peoples' outlooks through my "art" cause like I have said before I don't think I have a true art, I just think I know a lot about music which personally I don't consider to be a form of art. Having said that and restating what I said artist that I hopefully will sign, can change people's outlooks through their art.

  7. I’ve shared my art before to benefit a very global issue, it might not have been that immense as an issue but it was still an issue none the less. Moundstock is a musical benefit held in Joliet where many local bands of all genres’ come out to play some of their songs. All the proceeds go to the pit bull rescue which is an organization that helps save pit bulls that have been used in dog fights or just plain neglected. Dog fighting has always been a big issue it just did not get the press that it deserved until Michael Vick was convicted of dog fighting. When I heard about it for the first time I was automatically in, not only was it going to a fantastic cause but my art would be heard as well as experienced. My set was after the headlining band which I was very pleased with because it meant that’s when the biggest turn out is. So after the headlining band was done I was announced and a lot of people started cheering, it took me 5 minutes to set up. After the first song the crowd started getting more into it, but they really started to dance when I mixed in the third song which was LMFAO’s Shots Featuring Lil Jon. By the fourth song I looked out into the crowd and almost all of them where dancing, I was astonished because this was the biggest reaction out of the crowd then all the bands all day, even bigger than the headlining band. Not only did I get my name more out there but I also showed people that it can be fun to contribute to a cause, yes it’s a very serious issue but at the same time the atmosphere I created will get the word out to more people so that when Moundstock happens again we will have more followers and contributors.

  8. As an aspiring fashion designer, I want to touch people’s life by my fashion. The clothing I will design will be for people of all shapes and sizes. There are many stores for specific sizes and I don’t want people to feel left out. American Apparel is a store for more petite women and torrid’s a store for plus size women. At American Apparel plus size women have a hard time buying what they like because it’s hard to find their size. I feel it’s wrong that designers make clothing for certain sizes, everyone should be able to wear what they like and plus the designer will get more money because of that. I want women from all over the world of all shapes and sizes to feel and look beautiful in my clothing.

  9. The way my art will reflect issues of the world is threw a wide range of things I feel if the attention is brought to the next persons attention the message is potentionaly there but to hold their attention that’s where the art form come in play using certain colors certain pattern will make the viewer look at the art differently while adding subliminal messages on what going on what people don’t know. That’s the way my art will reflect issues in/of the world

  10. Like my last comment stated I still have yet to find a way to bring the ideas of change and awakening into my art. I do know that one of my favorite musicians Bob Dylan did just that; But like him I am fearful of just becoming an image, an icon for peaceful revolution without the revolution. I can sing and play for change but I know that you can't educate such philosophical ideas in just song. Which is why I do my best to write. I write in hopes that my music will bring others closer to the desire for these philosophical ideas, and one day human kind can be at peace with the earth. I know, what a hippie!

  11. In my art I show my ideas in my zine by saying “I recommend this record” or “this band should start doing this” or “they should stop doing this”. It doesn’t reflect on the world but it does reflect on the scene in Chicago, how I want people to read my zine, show how much work I have put into it and show what kind of talent I have with my art work. I don’t touch other people lives with my art, it’s showing my opinion about how I enjoyed this record or how this one show went and many other things I’m planning on putting in my zine. I will be bringing people attention to what really happened at this show or how this record really sounds like. People might agree with me and people might not agree with my statement about that band or what’s going on in the Chicago Hardcore scene. I could change people outlook on the record they listen to because they didn’t notice something in it or that they didn’t see that happen at that show. I really can’t wait to finish my zine so it can be out to the public and show them what I can really do and not just be the kid standing in the back while this awful band is playing or moshing to one of the best bands playing there. I want to speak out and explain why this band was awful or why they were the best band playing that show. Then take people back to that day and say that was a great show.
