Do you believe the authors of either books had a personal reason for writing their books, if so what do think it would be? If you were to write a novel what kind of novel would it be?

  1. I’m not sure if there is a personal reason for the author to be writing the novel. If it was a reason for him it would make so much sense. If I was to write a novel it would be called How to live with a Leo woman. I have always I wanted to write a book called that. Reason why is because my mother is a Leo and she is crazy it takes a strong individual to be able to deal with her.

  2. The book True Notebooks is based on a true story, so I think Mark the author of the book had already knew he was going to write a book. A reason of why I think he wrote the novel is because maybe he wanted to give inmates an opportunity to express their feeling and thoughts on paper, but instead of making a complete book of all the inmates stories he converted his experience into the book also which was cool, if I were to write a novel/book It would be of my life.

  3. I believe that Marjane Strapi had a personal reason for writing The Persepolis. The reason I felt Strapi wrote the books was to show you where she came from. Marjane stories relates from the hardships of childhood memories, heroes, goals and her culture. I enjoy reading her story it kind of reminds me of a biography but with more details. If I were to be a writer, I would write a memoir so people can see where I came from and what it took me to become who I am today. Everyone can relate to Strapis story because we all have childhood memories, have a different culture, have a hero and have goals.

  4. In The Complete Persepolis the author's reasoning for writing the book was to give the audience (her readers) a glimpse of her childhood and the effect the events of the Iran Revolution impacted on her life. If I were to write a novel it would be a memoir of my journey to of my music career. I would talk about the good and bad times I've encountered and the dangers of living in a nightlife lifestyle at such a young age.

  5. In the first couple chapters of True Notebooks, we see how mark lists all the reasons why he should not take the job working with the juveniles. I believe that his curiosity of crime drove him to write this book. He has had personal objects stolen, mugged, and robbed from him. Maybe he wanted to pick apart criminals minds to figure exactly why they act out in such cruel behavior. If I was to write a novel, it would be about how people judge each other on a regular basis. I want to know why the human mind is so quick to judge.

  6. There are various reasons why Marjane wrote her story. The one that makes the most impact to the reader I feel is to show the point of view of somebody living in those conditions. To see how their thought process for their surroundings not only developed but changed over time, plus to really get the feel of being limited to a vast standard. It’s like when you turn on the TV and you see people in Iraq or Iran living in the conditions they do you can’t really get a feel of their feelings because you’re only seeing one very small snippet of the bigger picture. Marjane digs deeper to show us as the readers what goes on in a household inside a revolution, we see the connections made, the friendships formed, people coming together, and bonds being strengthened. If I wrote a novel it would most definitely be a comic, not only is it unique but it’s also artistic and involves a reader into a new reading experience they are not fully ready for.

  7. I believe the author’s purposes' for writing their books are to tell people their stories to the readers. I'm not reading True Notebooks but in Persepolis I think Marjane's purpose of writing it was to give people not only some background information about the Iranian Revolution but also to tell her story and make people aware of her struggles growing up during that time period. I believe if I was to write a novel it would be the suspense mystery type. In the books we are reading they are more of memoirs of their lives but I don't think I would want to write such a book because I feel that writing about my personal life and sharing it would others would just be boring. Something new and something fresh is what I would write.

  8. There is a personal reason for why Marjane wrote Persepolis. Marjane wanted her audience to read and see what she went through in her country as a child. In Persepolis there is a certain message in the novel. It shows us that we don't have to just sit there and do nothing but we can change things. If we don't agree with something take a stand and make it right. The politics in her country made no sense what so ever but she still managed to get through it with her family.
If I were to write a novel it would be called The Road to Stardom. My novel would talk about how I grew up in Chicago. My family life as a child. My boyfriend and my friends. My downfalls in life and my skin condition. Most importantly, my dreams of becoming an actress. I want to show people who have ever had a skin condition felt like they couldn't do anything well they can. I know I suffered so hard trying to cope with Psoriasis. If it wasn't the pain that was agonizing but also ignorant kids in my grammar school who thought I was contagious. That made feel like I was the outsider but I stop letting people get to me. I'm moving forward to bigger and greater things.

  9. I believe that the authors of the novels had a personal reason for writing their books because they actually went through what they were telling in there text. Everything thing that we read so far in our books inspired them each time to write a novel, so we could get a taste of what is going on in these different places that we usually don’t visit. I would write a novel about my family, it is so much that goes on, so I think that would be pretty interesting to share.

  10. Marks reason for writing True Notebook is because he is showing us how if the inmates can write and read out loud very well then there is no way we can’t do the same. Mark wants to motivate the person who is reading this book and tells that if they believe in themselves then they can achieve to read and write just like the inmates are doing in the book or just to motivate them to do something with their life. It also show how much of a risk taker Mark is being to come to the juvenile hall to teach these kids every Wednesday and Saturday while being in the same presents as many prisoners and you never know if one of the inmates or students get out of hand. If I were to write a novel it would be how much my life has changed in the last five to ten years and how much has happened in my life. I would really focus on the big parts in my life and how much I have changed and how the people around me changed my life.

  11. The book true notebooks is written to motivate someone who maybe in the same situations struggling with identity, self esteem, and recovery to a new clean spirit about life and themselves. The author wrote what real life teenagers are going through and how they express or come to an agreement with themselves to change and do better than before. I connected as a teen, reader, and as a human begin living in a society that really don’t have a structure safe place to live in. It helps us see what the characters are going through. It also puts us in emotional moments that will help us get the picture and be able to not fall in the same positions. The book gives an illusion of what is happening in places that most or few of us have visit or not visit. The author has done a great job drawing me in and helping me understand that life happens for a reason.

  12. If I wrote a novel! It would have to be something powerful. This novel would be momentous in its own right. I would expect my novel to not become a trend or a best seller, but I also know that anyone who read my novel took something away from it. Something big. Like a new direction, or a sense of compassion. My novel would have the expression of philosophy, the the heart of a romance novel, and the heartache of a tragedy. In fact, now that I've thought about it. I would most likely write tragedies. As for Persepolis. I think the authors purpose for writing this graphic novel was to show the home setting in Iran during this time. To really understand how it was affecting her and her family. So that people who read it understand what it might have been like, instead of having a broad general understanding of the political issues.

  13. I do feel the author has a purpose for publishing True Notebooks. I feel that every author has a purpose behind it because if they didn’t they wouldn’t put so much time and effort behind it, or push for it to sell. However, at this point I am not so sure I really know Mark Salzman’s purpose for publishing the book because I have not finished it yet. Perhaps, Mark would like to get a message out about young adults in prison and how they really aren’t as big and bad as they appear to be. The inmates don’t really want to be where they are, and there is always a bigger reason as to why they are they. Of course they can be dangerous but underneath the tough shell, the inmates have a warm soul waiting to be rescued and sheltered from all the bad in their past. I feel that Mark wants to get a message across about having to experience things on your own. Sure you can always refer to a magazine article and news paper, but think about how much more of an impact you would have if you would experience a situation first hand. In True Notebooks, Mark does a splendid job on letting the reader know exactly what is going on and how it is in the juvenile hall. However, I also feel that he portrays prison in a way that isn’t so bad. Yes the writing sessions are great for the boys and they get a lot out of it. But being in prison is not all fun, games, and guest speakers. Many times one is fighting for their life inside the prison more than they would outside those walls. At this moment in my life I am not so sure what I would create a novel based on. I’ve had a pretty exciting life thus far but I think I want to wait for something drastic to happen!
