Greetings and welcome to Bridge 2010! This is our homepage for our four-week English Studies class. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the blog and its links. As a part of your English Studies course in Bridge, you will be required to post your questions, prompts, and responses on this website.
These next four weeks have been designed to be an intense and rewarding experience for you. The purpose of this work on the blog is to provide you with more opportunity to write, and respond to the ideas generated within our class.
In this, your first Blog posting, we ask that you write an Introduction for yourself. You might begin with some basic demographic information--age, major, where you live, family members, etc.--but work toward a more complicated, complex, and complete presentation of yourself. Don't only tell us what you like to do, but WHY. You might begin by describing how you spend your time, but also let us in on your own personal beliefs about some idea. What makes you who you are? What makes you think the way you do?
Of course, you can't say everything about yourself in this short amount of time, but do what you can to really give us an interesting description of who you are and why you're here in the Bridge program.
My name is Asia Orr, I'm 19 years old, my major is acting and i live in oak park, IL. The reason why acting is my major is because my dreams is to become a big movie start. It sounds a little lame the way I'm saying it but that's my dream. I want to become a actress, reason being because I really feel that I can act. I chose to go to Columbia because I know that Columbia is a great university and it will help me reach where I would like to be.
ReplyDeleteMy name is D.E.E. I'm 18 years old. I live on the south/east side of Chicago, Illinois. I'm a hip-hop/R&B/Pop/Experimental artist who has been rapping for over 10 years. My debut mixtape is being hosted by Lil Wayne's Young Money ent. I've been a professional freelance ghostwriter for 4 years now and promoter for about 4 years now as well. My company DEAD IN Ent. books any celebrity in the film/music industry and we throw parties/concerts around the state.

Hello, My name is Bryonna Nichols and i'm 18 years old. I want to pursuit my fashion career by majoring in fashion design at columbia college because i have a passion for fashion and My minor is music because I love to sing and I could show the world my clothing in my videos and it will catch people attention. I reside in Chicago,Il with a family of four sisters and seven brothers. I live with my mother with only one brother and one sister.There are many things I enjoy doing such as, skating,skateboard,dj,sketch clothing,shop, and sing. The things I just named i enjoy to do because It all relates to my major and minor. Fashion trends are seen throughout music videos and the to make the artist/people in the video look stylish is by wearing the hottest wear. To me Fashion and Music need each other because without catchy lyrics and dope clothing in videos it wouldnt catch many people attention.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Narlyn Pereira. Im eighteen years young and my major is in vocal music. Ive been singing since i could remember. The first couple words i every spoke was probably a song rather then speaking as a normal individual would. In the future i dream to be an R&B Singer and make beautiful music and albums that everyone will love. I couldnt ever imagine myself in a cubical behind a desk. That wouldnt work. If it wasnt singing, its dancing. Since i was three years old i have been dancing but did not keep moving forward with it in college. If anything, the stage is my second home. Though i will take classes so i dont loose my skill, it will no loger be one of my top priorities, due to a major injury. I hope that my vocals will get me very far and city will help with exposure and meet new people to get where i want to be. Where i need to be. That is all, see you at the top!

My major is theatre because I love being on stage. I love to sing and dance and I knew since day one was I was destined to be an actress. I can quote almost any movie word by word. My friends and family tell me all the time since I'm a drama queen they can see me as an actress. That's why I'm here to pursue my dreams and get discovered so I can start being in movies.
ReplyDeleteSup I’m Tony, I’m 19 and I am a DJ. For those that don’t know DJ stands for Disk Jockey. The type of music that got me into DJ’ing is electro. The reason for that is I like electro because of the melodies and the bass lines. I mix almost anything you can dance to but I feel electro is the best to get down to. All my equipment consists of my MacBook Pro and a couple of cords. Many DJ’s don’t like the DJ’s that use computers; they feel it’s not true talent. I feel its more marketable to use the computer because you take up less space, takes less time to set up, and you can stream music via the internet simultaneously so when somebody requests a song that you don’t have you can get it from the internet then mix it in later. My goal is to be the biggest DJ on Columbia’s Campus.

ReplyDeleteI'm Adam, I live in Buffalo Grove IL with my mom, my dad and two dogs (snickers and oreo). I'm turing 19 on August 20th. My major is Music Business.I chose that major because of my love of music. My life basically revolves around music and everything assoicated with it.I don't think I'm a musician(even though I play guiatr)but I knew that I wanted to do something in the music world. In my free time I love going to concerts and hanging with friends. My personal belifs on most things is everything happens for a reason. In life there are going to be twists and turns but the way I see things is that with those twists and turns there will be good outcomes.

My major is Film/Video, reason i choose the major is simpily because i have a very strong passion for movies and videos (music) i someday would like to make my own full film and also direct music videos for known artist from hip hop to rock.

My Minor is Poetry. my reason for coming to Columbia was to take my skills and work to the next level and to understand it more. I've chose this because I love music and it helps me express my feeling and thoughts in a creative way so does poetry. I call it "Painting my thoughts". When not in class on the weekends like to party, hang out wit friends, and shop. My style makes me who I am. I'M A SHOE HEAD! Stan equals a outgoing, out of the box,funny, cool, artistic fellow!

I chose to major in film because i figured i would have more opportunities in the film industy considering my unlce directs commericals but i would also like to deepen my knowledge of music and recording.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Shawntara Mathis.I'm 18 years old,born and raise in Jackson,Mississippi and moved to Chicago at the age 10.My major is in dance performance and i want to do a double also in business management.I love to dance and make up choregraphy and i been dancing since i was 3 but started ballet and modern at the age of 8. I dance because its calming and is my zone.I spend most of my time dancing and shopping and i write poetry and song and what i feel sometimes that day. What makes me who i am is my diversity and ability to conquer what i believe is right.
ReplyDeleteI have been dancing since I was three years old. Growing up, it was the only thing that I had a real passion for. I was always the girly girl singing and tapping my feet under my desk waiting for the bell to ring to I could go to dance class. "Everything happens for a reason," is a quote I strongly stand by. While most of my friends are heading to a university in a cornfield, I’ll be here at Columbia College following my dream of becoming a professional dancer. I want to dedicate myself one hundred percent the next four years!
ReplyDeleteMy name is John Markovich. I am 19 years old. My major is graphic design. I live in Highland, Indiana. I live with my mom and my two brothers. My interests are collecting records, listen records with friends at my house or at my other friend’s house, I go to hardcore/punk shows with all of my friends most of time, I play video games with most of my friends and friends from different states that I don’t talk to anymore. Why I collect records is because I find them more valuable than CD or mp3. I also like to have the art work in my hands and seen how they did other things with the record such as color and the album art. I go to shows with my friends so I can meet new people, to see my friends play and other bands from out of the state or country come to Chicago to play for us. I play video games with my friends because it is something to do with my friend that are not from the town I’m from or we get together and see how that play and learn from how they play and it’s just fun to do something with your friends.
ReplyDeleteHey I'm Dolfo! so I should say something about myself. Usually i would ask what do you want to know. I could also ask myself what about me is worth knowing before I continue. It's not an uncommon thought proccess. I consider myself an artist on good days and a musician anyday of the week. I'm not the most talented musician but i'm pretty sure thats why i'm coming to columbia. I'm a sustainability believing, tree hugging recycle pushing, forest loving type. I could talk forever about how i love nature and can literally get stranded in wild forest settings and be totally happy, but thats good for now. My interest consist of cultural anthropology, environmental science, soccer, music(guitar), Art(painting, drawing, ceramic, etc). Off the top of my head thats the most insight into myself i can give. :{D <--mexican

Hello there, my name is Andre and I from Chicago. I am a very outgoing person; I enjoy dancing, eating almost everything, and parties. Most people that I know enjoy being around me because I’m a person that enjoy being around other people I guess. I am very understanding at times, but I can be careless. Sometimes I feel if it’s not about me then it’s not important. I’m the only child so sometimes I have that “only me” attitude. I believe that dance is life. So that is Andre, your friendly guy.
